Former Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin harshly commented on the United States operation against Venezuela, comparing it to the 1999 NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
In a statement carried by the Russian TASS news agency, Vulin said that what is happening to Venezuela today by the US is the same aggressive approach that the Western alliance used against Belgrade more than two decades ago. He said that the attack on a sovereign state and the kidnapping of its president constitute a clear warning to non-nuclear countries.
“ The bombing of a United Nations member state and the kidnapping of its president is just a warning to non-nuclear states to either arm themselves so much that they become a very costly target, or abandon their independent policy, ” Vulin said, according to Serbian media.
He stressed that Russia must continue the fight to create a new security order, to confront a Western-led coalition of fear, which, he said, will include countries that worry they could suffer the same fate as Yugoslavia or Venezuela. Vulin said these countries are ready to cooperate unconditionally, even if it means getting involved in a conflict with Russia or China.
