US President Joe Biden opened the press conference today in Vietnam, paying tribute to the victims of the earthquake in Morocco that killed more than 2,000 people.
"I want to express my sorrow for the loss of life and the destruction caused by the earthquake in Morocco. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Morocco," Biden said.
The president said his administration — including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was in the room where Biden was speaking — is working with Moroccan officials to "ensure that American citizens in Morocco are safe."
The United States is " ready to provide the necessary assistance to Morocco," Biden added.
Biden is in Vietnam on a diplomatic visit after attending the G20 Summit.
