Chaotic scenes were recorded on a busy interstate highway in Florida, US, after drivers stuck in traffic saw a small plane heading towards them and then crash into a passing vehicle. The Beechcraft 55 aircraft, with two people on board, was forced to make an emergency landing on Monday afternoon during rush hour. As it made the emergency landing, it hit a car, causing a hard crash.
The 57-year-old driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was rushed to hospital. The two 27-year-old passengers on the plane refused hospital treatment, authorities said. The pilot said he had experienced engine trouble seconds before landing, but the nature of the problem remains unclear. Footage from the scene showed the roadway covered in debris and parts of the plane, a scene that reflected the force of the impact.
The accident occurred on one of the busiest arteries connecting Orlando to Cape Canaveral. Authorities were forced to completely close the highway, causing massive traffic jams while debris was cleared. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
