Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of trying to push for a regional ceasefire to delay the resumption of his criminal trial for corruption.
In a post on the social network X, Araghchi wrote that Netanyahu's criminal trial resumes on Sunday and that a complete ceasefire in the region, including Lebanon, would speed up the judicial process against him.
" Netanyahu's criminal trial resumes on Sunday. A ceasefire across the region, including Lebanon, would expedite his imprisonment. The United States wants to destroy its economy by allowing Netanyahu to kill diplomacy, that's their choice. We think that would be foolish, but we are prepared for it ," Araghchi said.
An Israeli court spokesman confirmed today that the trial will resume on Sunday, after being suspended due to the state of emergency during the recent conflict with Iran. Netanyahu is the first sitting prime minister in Israeli history to be charged with crimes.
He strongly denies the charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, filed since 2019. The trial has dragged on for years and has been postponed several times for security and official duties reasons.
