Melania Trump has denied any allegations of an affair with Jeffrey Epstein, calling the accusations false and defamatory.
In a rare public statement from the White House on Thursday, the US First Lady responded directly to reports implicating her in the case. " The lies linking me to the despicable Jeffrey Epstein must stop today ," she declared.
Melania Trump stressed that she never had a personal relationship with Epstein. She also clarified that she had only had casual contact with his close associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
" I never had any personal acquaintance with him ," she said, rejecting any insinuations of involvement in Epstein's circle.
She also categorically denied claims that Epstein played a role in her introduction to Donald Trump. " Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump. I met my husband by chance ," she said, adding that the details are also described in her book.
Melania Trump also stressed that she had no knowledge of Epstein's victims and was not involved in any way. " I never had any knowledge of his victims. I was not involved in any way. I was not a part of it, I never traveled on his plane and I never visited his private island ," she declared.
At the same time, she called on the US Congress to organize a public hearing focused on Epstein's victims, so that their testimonies can be officially recorded.
Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. That same year, he was found dead in his cell in a Manhattan jail, with US authorities concluding that it was a suicide.
