Israel has launched a new wave of airstrikes on Hezbollah-linked targets in Lebanon, increasing tensions in the region at a time when there is talk of possible negotiations between the two countries.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the strikes targeted Hezbollah rocket launch sites. Lebanon's National News Agency reported multiple airstrikes in the south of the country within a short period of time.
Before the military intervention, the IDF had warned Israeli citizens of the possibility of new attacks by Hezbollah. "Additional areas may come under fire in the coming hours ," the statement said.
The new attacks come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had instructed his government to "open direct negotiations" with Lebanon, but declared there would be no ceasefire with Hezbollah in the country, even as he pushes for the start of talks.
"I have instructed the opening of direct negotiations, but there will be no ceasefire with Hezbollah," is the position declared by Netanyahu.
Recent developments indicate an escalation of the situation on the Israel-Lebanon border, where military interventions are continuing in parallel with diplomatic efforts.
