Turkey's Defense Ministry announced that NATO air defense systems deployed in the eastern Mediterranean have shot down a fourth ballistic missile that entered Turkish airspace. According to the statement, the missile entered Turkish airspace after flying over Iraq and Syria, but was successfully neutralized without causing casualties or material damage.
This is the fourth incident of this kind since the start of the US-Israeli conflict against Iran. The previous three missiles were shot down by NATO systems this month, prompting Ankara to officially protest to Tehran and warn Iran of possible consequences.
Tehran has denied any involvement in these incidents, stating that it did not authorize any missile launches towards Turkey. It stressed that
"All necessary measures are being taken decisively and without hesitation against any threat directed at Turkey's sovereign territory ," the Turkish Defense Ministry said.
Turkey, a NATO member, has expressed concern that these incidents could draw the alliance deeper into the developing conflict. There has been no immediate official reaction from Iran to the fourth incident.
