Italy in the "power" of fires, red alert in some areas; residents climb onto the roof to escape the flames

Fires continue to worry Italy, increasing fear and anxiety among citizens. It was a long night in Palermo, because of the fires that broke out in the Brancaccio area, between Via Fichidindia and San Ciro.

After the fires in Bagheria, some residents were forced to take to the streets, while some climbed onto roofs to escape the flames. As in July, this time too the fire threatened the capital's apartments. The red alert was issued for the provinces of Messina and Trapani.

Three Canadair jets have been put on standby to fight the fires. High temperatures and winds have favored the spread of fires, which have destroyed land, threatened homes and a gas station.

The fires have also spread to Sicily. A fire broke out at Passo del Fico, near Fontanarossa airport in Catania, causing some flights to Comiso, Lamezia and Palermo to be diverted.
