During his visit to the White House, Zelensky met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and several senators, where he asked for more funding for the war in Ukraine.
McCarthy, the leader of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, has recently shown signs of wavering support for the war in Ukraine.
President Joe Biden has asked Congress for more than $24 billion in aid for Ukraine and other international concerns, but Republicans have said the money should be spent on domestic concerns.
McCarthy told reporters he would not commit to voting this year on a $24 billion aid package for Ukraine.
" We have to take care of our fiscal house here in America. I am more than willing to pay attention to problems within the country. But the only thing I know is that the president is only focused on helping Ukraine, 10,000 people just crossed the border, and he wants to ignore that ," McCarthy said.
