The Israeli military says it has struck hundreds of targets in Gaza over the past 24 hours, targeting Hamas infrastructure.

As its air campaign shows no sign of ending, Israel says anti-tank missile launch sites, tunnels and headquarters have been destroyed

Gaza remains under siege, with Israel blocking cross-border supplies of water, electricity and fuel.

But the US and Egypt say aid trucks should begin crossing from Egypt to Gaza on Friday.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will arrive in Israel on Thursday, a day after Joe Biden visited Tel Aviv.

Biden's trip was overshadowed by an explosion at a hospital in Gaza, which local officials say killed 471 people.

Local authorities say the Israeli airstrike was to blame, but Israel insists the explosion was caused by an errant rocket from Gaza.

The situation on the ground

Gaza's Health Ministry, which is run by Hamas, said on Wednesday that 3,478 Palestinians have been killed and more than 12,000 wounded in the past 11 days.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Wednesday it will allow humanitarian aid to enter the besieged Gaza Strip through the border crossing with Egypt.

Griffiths said late Wednesday that "number one, we have to make sure that we can get into Gaza every day consistently and reliably."

"Number two, we have to be able to go to civilians safely. "International law exists for a reason," he emphasized.

It is not clear when the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza will begin.

But Griffiths said he hopes aid deliveries will begin in the next two days, adding that the UN has about 14,000 members in the Gaza Strip ready to distribute aid.

Griffiths insisted that the aid would go to the civilian population and not to Hamas, which controls Gaza, home to some 2.3 million Palestinians.

During a visit to Israel on Wednesday, US President Joe Biden said Israel has agreed to allow humanitarian aid into the impoverished enclave, even as it is bombing it in response to Hamas attacks on Israel.

Israel, which controls almost all Gaza crossings, says it will not allow aid to enter through its soil "until all the hostages are released."

Israel's military launched a bombardment and cordoned off the Gaza Strip, preventing food, water and fuel from entering and cutting off electricity supplies, shortly after Hamas militants carried out attacks on several southern Israeli cities on October 7.
