The situation worsens/ Israel responds harshly to the attack by Hamas, over 200

After the deadly Palestinian attack on Gaza that left dozens of people dead, Israel has responded harshly by launching a retaliatory attack.

Israel launched what it called "Operation Iron Sword" in response to the Hamas incursion, which began with massive early morning rocket attacks.

At least 198 Palestinians are currently reported dead following retaliatory Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, officials there reported, adding that some 1,610 people were injured.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, it is reported that in addition to the attacks that caused over 100 dead and over 700 wounded, the Palestinians have taken about 50 Israeli hostages held by Hamas near the Gaza border.

Israeli news channel N12 is now reporting that around 50 Israeli hostages are currently being held by Hamas gunmen. The hostages were currently being held at Kibbutz Be'eri, in southern Israel, in the northwestern Negev desert, near the eastern border with the Gaza Strip.

The head of the EU's foreign policy, Josep Borrell, reacted to the news of the hostage taking of 50 Israelis, who condemned this act and called for their release.

" The news about civilians taken hostage in their homes or in Gaza is terrible. This is contrary to international law. The hostages must be released immediately ", writes Borrel, among other things, on the 'X' platform.

Meanwhile, the White House reports that President Joe Biden has been informed about the situation of the attacks in Israel and will soon communicate with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

While US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said that Washington is working to ensure that Israel "has what it needs" to defend itself.

" Over the coming days, the Department of Defense will work to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians from indiscriminate violence and terrorism ," Austin said in a statement.
