Clashes have been recorded in the Khallat al-Raj area, on the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor, Syria, following a new attempt by Israeli forces to advance towards the town of Zawtar in southern Lebanon, the National News Agency reported.
According to reports, the city of Zawtar al-Sharqiya was previously hit by artillery shelling, allegedly using phosphorus shells, a type of ammunition prohibited under certain conditions under international law due to its effects.
Grenades were also reported in the towns of Mefdoun and Haboush, in the Nabatieh district, expanding the area affected by the clashes.
The developments indicate an escalation of the security situation in southern Lebanon, at a time of high tensions in the region.
Israel is prepared for all scenarios following developments in the Persian Gulf, an official told The Jerusalem Post on Monday, adding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held several security consultations throughout the day.
