JD Vance: US has no plans to recognize Palestinian state

United States Vice President JD Vance has stated that the United States has no plans to recognize the Palestinian state, due to the lack of a functioning government in the Palestinian territories. This statement was made during a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, today at Chevening House, the British minister's official residence in Kent, England.

Vance stressed that President Donald Trump remains committed to his objectives in the Middle East, focusing on two main goals: preventing Hamas attacks on Israeli civilians by eliminating this group and addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has deeply affected the US administration.

"I don't know what it means to recognize a Palestinian state when there is no functioning government," Vance said, explaining the US position.

The statement comes as the United Kingdom, France and Canada have announced their intention to recognize a Palestinian state by September 2025 if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire in Gaza. The UK has said it will take the step to increase pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. However, Vance stressed that the US will not follow suit, expressing doubts about the practical meaning of recognizing Palestine under current conditions.
