Shortly before the end of the White House press conference, CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins asked a direct question to press secretary Karoline Leavitt regarding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's comments.
In recent days, Hegseth has said that the media is giving high priority to news about the deaths of American soldiers, claiming that this is done "to make the president look bad" and that "when such tragedies happen, they become front-page news."
“ Is it the position of this administration that the press not prominently cover the deaths of American service members? ” Collins asked Leavitt.
Leavitt responded sharply, accusing CNN and Collins personally of bias. She said their media network takes everything the administration says and tries to use it to make the president look bad.

" That's not what the secretary said, Kaitlan, and you know it. You know you're being disingenuous. The press just wants to make the president look bad. That's a fact... Especially you and especially CNN ," she said.
Leavitt added that the claim that Hegseth was “complaining” about the coverage is distorted and that she and her network know this very well.
The exchange was tense for several minutes, with Leavitt emphasizing that CNN's coverage of the administration is "mostly negative" and that the American people agreed with that.
The incident comes amid heightened military tensions between the US, Israel and Iran, with six American soldiers killed since the start of the latest operations. The deaths have drawn widespread media attention, with the Trump administration warning that more casualties could follow.
