Spain has denied that it is cooperating with the United States and providing access to its military bases for operations against Iran.
The statement comes after White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said earlier that Spain "has agreed to cooperate with the US military" in recent hours.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares publicly denied this claim during an interview with Cadena Ser radio.
"I can contradict the White House spokesperson. The Spanish government's position regarding the war in the Middle East, the bombing of Iran and the use of our bases has not changed at all," Albares declared.
Earlier, Madrid had rejected Washington's request to use Spanish military bases in operations against Iran, a decision that provoked a strong reaction from US President Donald Trump, who threatened to cut off trade relations with Spain.
However, US diplomatic sources told Sky News that they stand behind the White House's statements and that Spain is expected to cooperate with the US on this issue.
