US President Donald Trump said he is holding productive discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
Trump said Sunday that he had "good conversations" with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"We're working on the Russia situation, Russia and Ukraine, and hopefully we'll get it done ," Trump said in an interview on Fox News' "The Sunday Briefing."
Asked if he had spoken to Putin, Trump said yes, but added that he did not want to reveal when he had last spoken to his Russian counterpart. He expressed his belief that a solution is achievable despite the current hostility between the two leaders.
" I had conversations with him, and I had conversations with President Zelenskiy, and good conversations. The hatred between President Putin and President Zelenskiy is ridiculous. It's crazy. And hatred is a bad thing. Hate is a bad thing when you're trying to solve something, but it's going to happen," he said, without specifying when the calls with either leader took place.
Trump had pledged to end the war that began with a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, but more than a year into his second term, the conflict still continues.
