Several airports in Italy are facing a shortage of fuel for aircraft, forcing authorities to impose temporary restrictions on the supply and operation of flights.

According to official aeronautical notices (NOTAM), Brindisi airport currently has no Jet A1 fuel available as of 14:00 on 7 April. The limited supply is reserved for state flights, search and rescue operations and medical flights only. Airlines have been instructed to plan for supplies from other airports to cover their routes.

According to information from the sector, the restriction in Brindisi is related to unusual requests for additional quantities of fuel from air operators, which has put pressure on suppliers. One of the main distributors has requested a restriction on distribution, while internal sources speak of reserves of around 150 thousand liters, sufficient for around 50 short flights.

Similar problems have been reported at other airports. In Reggio Calabria, a maximum supply limit of 3,000 liters per plane has been imposed due to reduced availability. The measure is considered precautionary, pending new supplies.

Meanwhile, only one tanker truck with around 20,000 liters of fuel is operating at Pescara airport, as another vehicle has been out of service for several days.

These developments add to concerns about a knock-on effect on fuel supply in the Italian air network, at a time when demand for flights remains high and any disruption could affect airline operations.
