President Emmanuel Macron has postponed a state visit to Germany due to ongoing protests and unrest across France.
More than 1,300 people have been arrested after a fourth night of violent protests over the death of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, who was shot by police during a raid in a Paris suburb on Tuesday.
Citizens have taken to the streets for four consecutive nights, burning cars, throwing stones and fireworks and looting shops.
A funeral for the teenager began this afternoon, with family and friends viewing the open casket before it was taken to a mosque for a ceremony and later burial.
Macron's cancellation of the visit is a clear sign of the importance of France's turmoil given the importance of its relationship with Germany.
Macron spoke to his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier to brief him on the situation, a spokesman for the German president said.
" President Macron has requested that the planned state visit to Germany be postponed ," the spokesman added.
