EC confirms interference in GPS signal where Von der Leyen was traveling: We are

The European Commission has confirmed that there was interference in the GPS signal of the plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during its approach to Plovdiv Airport in Bulgaria.

Commission spokeswoman Arianna Podestà announced that the interference was a deliberate and overt act by Russia. However, despite technical obstacles, the plane landed safely.

"We confirm that there was interference in the GPS signal, but the plane landed safely in Bulgaria. Bulgarian authorities suspect that this is an open interference by Russia," Podestà said, confirming the Financial Times report.

According to her, the incident is part of a broader intimidation strategy.

"We are accustomed to these types of threats and attempts at intimidation, which constitute an element of Russia's hostile behavior. This episode further strengthens our unwavering determination to strengthen our defense capabilities and support for Ukraine," the Commission spokeswoman said.

The European Commission emphasizes that President von der Leyen's visit to the countries bordering Russia and Belarus takes on even greater significance after this incident, highlighting the daily risks they face.

"The European Union will continue to invest in defense and military preparedness, especially after this incident," Podestà added.
