Serbia joins Russia and China, Vučić will meet with Putin and Xi in Beijing!

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will meet with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, during his visit to Beijing from September 2 to 4, the Presidency of Serbia announced.

The statement said that Vučić will also hold talks with other senior Chinese officials and representatives of large companies. According to the statement, he is visiting China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping and will also participate in commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.

On September 3, China will hold a military parade to mark the official surrender of Japan during World War II.

Chinese authorities also confirmed the participation of the leaders of North Korea, Belarus, Iran, Cuba, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Malaysia, among others.

As reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Balkan Service, Vučić and Putin will discuss Russian-Serbian cooperation, including the energy sector.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said an "exchange of views on key issues of Russian-Serbian cooperation" is planned.

On August 25, Vučić said that he and the Chinese ambassador to Belgrade, Li Ming, discussed the agenda for the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Vučić also met with Putin in early May, when he attended the Victory Day ceremony in Moscow.

This was their first meeting since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Officially, Serbia supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but has not imposed sanctions on Russia over the invasion.

Belgrade justifies this position with the political support that Moscow gives to Serbia on the issue of Kosovo, whose independence Serbia does not recognize.

Despite criticism and warnings from the European Union, Belgrade maintains close ties with Moscow and Beijing – whether in defense, economics, or politics.

Brussels has reiterated several times that Serbia, as a candidate country for EU membership, must harmonize its foreign and security policy with that of the EU./ REL
