Kiev attacks several Russian regions with 110 drones

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the air force had shot down 110 Ukrainian drones on Sunday over the western regions of the country. This development comes as 17 people were injured in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih as a result of a Russian ballistic missile attack.

Moscow said the 110 drones were aimed at seven Russian regions. Many of them targeted Russia's border region of Kursk, where 43 were intercepted.

Footage circulating on social media appeared to show air defenses in action over the city of Dzerzhinsk in the Nizhny Novgorod region, near a factory producing explosives.

Local governor Gleb Nikitin wrote on social media on Sunday that four firefighters had been injured while repelling a drone attack on the Dzerzhinsk industrial zone, but gave no further details.

Such large-scale airstrikes have been relatively rare in the 2 1/2 years since Moscow launched its full-scale assault on Ukraine.

A similar attack was announced at the end of September by the Russian Ministry of Defense which announced that it had destroyed 125 drones in seven regions.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Ukrainian officials announced that 17 people were injured in Ukraine's Kryvyi Rih after the city was hit by two Russian ballistic missiles.

The attack that took place late Saturday evening damaged homes and businesses, said the head of the local administration Oleksandr Vilkul.

The Ukrainian air force said Russia had launched 49 drones and two Iskander-M ballistic missiles overnight. It also said 31 of the drones were downed in 12 regions, including the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.

In a statement on social media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in the past week alone, Russia had launched around 800 aerial guided bombs and more than 500 attack drones over Ukraine.

" Every day, Russia strikes our cities and communities. It is deliberate terror by the enemy, against our people ," he wrote, renewing calls for continued air support from the country's allies.

" United in defense, the world can stand up against this deliberate terror ."
