The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has called on governments around the world to use their influence and put pressure on Israel to end the war in Gaza.
In a video statement, released ahead of a conference on Palestine that opens tomorrow in New York, he says that every day we see "more destruction, more killing and further dehumanization of the Palestinians."
He says Israel has "obligations" to ensure that the population is provided with food and life-saving essentials, and all countries must take "concrete steps" to ensure this happens.
It calls for the delivery of "massive" humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as an "immediate and permanent ceasefire [and] the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages."
