In recent days, the Gmail email service has been the target of a large-scale cyberattack.
Hackers are impersonating Google's support service to steal passwords to the company's online customer accounts.
This is reported by the American financial and economic magazine Forbes.
The hackers are trying to "fix the account issue," which is what is allegedly happening. At the same time, the fake links and forms for stealing information look very believable: the attackers are using real Google domains.
The company warns against opening suspicious incoming emails.
EvilKittensCo suspected something and asked “Google” to call them from a Google phone number, which they did, or at least called from a number associated with Google Assistant.
The trick is to try to get the victim to send a Gmail 2FA account recovery code that will be sent to him/her. This way, the hacker will have access to the account and will be able to make the necessary changes to block the rightful owner.
