North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met today in Russia's far east.
That meeting took place ahead of anticipated arms talks and just hours after North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into waters off the Korean Peninsula, CNN reports.
"I'm glad to see you ," Putin said as he shook Kim's hand for about 40 seconds.
"This is our new cosmodrome," he added.
Meanwhile, the leader of North Korea thanked him for the invitation and for his warm welcome. Asked if Moscow would help Pyongyang build satellites, Putin said "that's why we came to the Vastochny cosmodrome," adding that "we will discuss everything."
During a stop in the border town of Khasan on Tuesday, where Kim was welcomed by Russian officials, the North Korean leader said his trip to Russia was a "clear manifestation" of North Korea "prioritizing the strategic importance" of Moscow-Pyongyang relations.
The face-to-face meeting at the Vostochny cosmodrome is seen as a significant development, bringing together two leaders who are increasingly isolated on the world stage and which comes amid Russia's protracted war on Ukraine and UN sanctions.
