The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, has issued strong accusations against major European countries, describing them as sponsors of a "racist and criminal regime" in Kiev, which, according to him, has no other goal than to prepare a new aggression against Russia.
Lavrov's statements were published in an official statement cited by the Ria Novosti agency, signaling a further escalation in the Kremlin's official language towards the European Union and the West as a whole.
According to Lavrov, the main goal of Brussels, Berlin, Paris and London is “to preserve the Kiev regime”, which, according to him, controls a territory where “the Russian language and media are prohibited by law, where canonical Orthodoxy is persecuted, where monuments of Russian history and culture are destroyed, and where Nazi ideology is recultivated”. He added that opponents and citizens who express different opinions face “brutal reprisals”.
In another part of the statement, Lavrov declared that there can be no solution to the crisis in Ukraine without the cessation of what he called “criminal policy” by Kiev. “I am convinced that the racist nature of the Kiev regime and the cynicism of its Western sponsors are already visible to the honest part of the international community,” Lavrov said, also mentioning “gratitude” to international partners who have condemned, according to him, “the terrorist attack on the residence of President Vladimir Putin.”
