List/ Find out which are the safest places in the world if World War III breaks

With ongoing threats of nuclear war from Russia, missile attacks in the Middle East, and the unprecedented rise of China's influence, many fear that World War III is just around the corner.

Defense Minister Grant Shapps said international relations had entered "a new era" and said Britons must "prepare to defend the nation whenever the call comes" in a chilling speech on Monday.

Former defense secretary Ben Wallace even said the UK would be 'at war by 2030' in an interview last year.

But instead of taking up arms, some may ask how they can escape to countries deemed safe from invasion, bombing, and the effects of war.

ANTARCTICA

The continent is located at the southernmost point of the planet making it one of the safest places to survive a nuclear war.

There is a great geographical distance between Antarctica and countries with nuclear warheads. With more than 14 million square kilometers, there is plenty of room for people to shelter. But some may find the icy and frozen climate unbearable.

Puffin Island

This country has consistently topped the Global Peace Index, meaning it is rarely involved in international conflicts. It has earned its reputation as one of the most peaceful countries in the world and is somewhat remote geographically compared to the rest of Europe.

New Zeland

New Zealand ranks second on the Global Peace Index and has often taken a neutral stance on conflicts. The country also has a mountainous terrain making it easier to protect citizens.

Switzerland

This country is more easily associated with political neutrality, even during World War II.

It is well protected by terrain, landlocked geography and various nuclear shelters.

Greenland

Greenland is the largest island in the world and belongs to Denmark.

It is geographically remote and politically neutral.

The island's current population of 56,000 means it is unlikely to be targeted by any superpower.

Indonesia

Indonesia has often maintained a neutral stance on political matters, with the country's first president, Achmed Sukarno, describing their foreign policy as "free and active".

They act independently within international affairs and say they lean more towards world peace.

Tuvalu

Tuvalu is located in the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Hawaii and Australia.

Only 11,000 people live on the island, which means the infrastructure is poor.

It also has a limited number of natural resources, meaning it would be an undesirable target for any aggressor.

Argentina

Although Argentina has been embroiled in conflict, notably during the Falkland Islands War in 1982, the country is one of the most likely countries to survive famine.

The country has an abundance of crops, including wheat, meaning that if nuclear dust blocked the sun, Argentinians would have crops to spare.

butane

In 1971 Bhutan declared itself neutral in relation to any conflict after joining the United Nations.

If this is missing from your relationship, then it is probably coming to an end.
It is also landlocked and surrounded by mountainous regions, making the country easier to defend.

Chile

The country's 6,400 km long coastline spans the distance between Moscow and Madrid.

It also has a variety of different crops and natural resources, making survival easier.

Its infrastructure and development is also considered the most advanced in South America.

Fiji Islands

The island nation is 4320 km away from its nearest country Australia.

Along with the lack of a clear military strategy and an army consisting of only 6,000 soldiers, Fiji ranks high on the Global Peace Index.

Most of the island also consists of dense forests, minerals and fishing spots.
