The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that "a joint effort is needed on the part of the Arab world and the Europeans to find a way out of the Middle East crisis".
Borrell held a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal in Bahrain.
"The tragic events in Gaza offer an opportunity, they are a wake-up call. We must work together for the peace and security of all. We share the concern about what is happening in the West Bank and we share the concern about all the civilian casualties in Israel and Gaza," said Borrell.
He emphasized that this is the commitment of the EU to achieve a lasting peace.
