Lebanon's Health Ministry has announced that at least 3,020 people have been killed in the latest round of intense fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Among the casualties are 292 women and 211 children, while over 9,000 others have been injured.
The fighting began on March 2, 2026, just two days after the joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran. Hezbollah began firing rockets into Israel, while Tel Aviv responded with a large-scale military operation: a ground invasion of southern Lebanon, intensive bombing of Beirut and other areas of the country.
Israel has stated that the operations aim to destroy Hezbollah's military capabilities and prevent its rearmament.
Despite US-brokered ceasefire efforts, sporadic fighting continues and Hezbollah has rejected pressure from the Lebanese government to disarm, positioning itself as a powerful political and military actor within Lebanon.
Over a million people have been displaced from their homes as a result of the conflict, creating a severe humanitarian crisis in the country.
