The White House considers the new proposal that Iran has sent to the United States through Pakistan as part of negotiations over its nuclear program to be insufficient, Axios reported, citing US sources.
" The White House believes that this is not a significant improvement and that the offer is not enough to reach a deal ," Axios reported.
According to the same sources, US President Donald Trump is expected to gather top national security leaders in the "Situation Room" tomorrow to discuss military options against Iran.
A US official quoted by Axios stated that, if Tehran does not change its stance, negotiations with Iran could continue "with bombs."
US sources said Trump continues to prefer a deal that would end the crisis, but is considering whether there is still room for negotiations after Iran rejected some of Washington's key demands, including "significant concessions on its nuclear program."
According to the US administration, the latest document sent by Tehran contains only limited steps forward. Iran has reaffirmed that it does not intend to develop nuclear weapons, but, according to US sources, has not made any concrete commitments to stop uranium enrichment or hand over its stockpiles of highly enriched uranium.
White House officials also denied Iranian media reports that Washington is willing to ease sanctions without conditions.
“ We need a real, strong, detailed negotiation on the nuclear program ,” a U.S. source told Axios. “ Otherwise we will be talking through bombs, and that would be unfortunate .”
