Shocking footage has emerged of the gun attack that hit the Turkish province of Mersin, where a gunman killed four people and injured eight others in a series of attacks in the Tarsus district.
Security camera footage shows the perpetrator approaching a restaurant in the Kadelli Dörtler neighborhood in a white car. He then opens fire on people outside the restaurant, before quickly fleeing the scene.
According to Turkish media, the attacker has been identified as Metin Öztürk. The first attack took place at the restaurant owned by Sabri Pan, who died in hospital from his injuries. Another victim, employee Ahmet Ercan Can, died at the scene.
After the attack on the restaurant, the perpetrator continued his movement to other areas of Tarsus, where he killed two more people: Yusuf Oktay, a young man grazing animals in the Kaburgediği area, and truck driver Abdullah Koca near his apartment in Yenimahalle.
Eight other people were injured along the attacker's route, while authorities warned that the toll could rise.
Following the massacre, Turkish police and gendarmerie launched a large-scale operation to capture the perpetrator. The operation involved helicopters, checkpoints and numerous security forces patrolling the areas around Mersin and Tarsus.
Investigations into the motives for the attack continue as Turkey grapples with another serious episode of gun violence just weeks after other deadly attacks carried out by teenagers in the country.
