Guerrilla warfare in Rome, Molotov cocktails and smoke bombs thrown at police;

Thousands of people gathered in Rome in what was considered a national demonstration for Gaza, despite the peace agreements being at a turning point.

Despite the measures taken by the police, who since morning carried out security checks on roads and highways, stations and trains, seizing gas masks, metal rods and wooden sticks, what happened in Rome turned into a guerrilla war between pro-Palestinian protesters and security forces.

At the pro-Pal demonstration in Rome, several chants against Israel and the government were heard. A banner was also displayed: "October 7, Palestinian Resistance Day." Tensions erupted in front of the FAO when some protesters threw fireworks at police.

A smoke bomb was thrown at an armored Guardia di Finanza vehicle on Via dei Normanni, shortly after the pro-Palestine march passed.

The bomb was thrown as a group of several hooded individuals passed by. They were then stopped in Santa Maria Maggiore before they reached a sensitive target: even with the use of water cannons, the police managed to stop approximately 100 of them.

In the evening, groups of Black Bloc protesters and other protesters attacked police with Molotov cocktails, bottles and other objects. A civilian police car was burned. Garbage containers were also set on fire.

Police have identified 262 violent protesters, who are charged with criminal damage, resisting a public official, etc.

As the protest was dispersing, groups of protesters set fire to two cars and several garbage containers, while objects and fireworks were thrown at the police. For these incidents, 12 people were arrested, all members of the opposition wing, their photos were reported and they are being reported to the judicial authorities for the same crimes. The DIGOS unit of the Rome Police Headquarters already has extensive images available for further investigations.

In Piazza San Cosimato, in Trastevere, Rome, several cairns dedicated to Holocaust victims were covered with stickers supposedly bearing the names of Palestinian victims. In Colle Oppio, Rome police officers arrested 5 individuals, all minors and residents of Pisa, who were carrying helmets, smoke bombs, glass bottles and spray cans. Meanwhile, at the heart of the demonstration, calls for Hezbollah and Nasrallah were raised, accompanied by flags waving in what was supposed to be a peace march.

The statue of Pope John Paul II near Rome's Termini station was also damaged.
