US President Donald Trump has announced that the ceasefire in Gaza will take effect immediately, once Hamas confirms its acceptance of the plan for Israel's partial withdrawal from the Palestinian territory.
In a statement published on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “ After negotiations, Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shared with Hamas. Once Hamas confirms it, the ceasefire will go into effect immediately. The process of exchanging hostages and prisoners will begin, and the conditions will be created for the next phase of the withdrawal, which will bring us closer to the end of this 3,000-year-old catastrophe .”
Trump added at the end of the post: " Thank you for your attention to this matter — stay tuned for more news! "
The plan outlined by the president includes a partial withdrawal of the Israeli military from some areas of Gaza, as a first step towards the full release of the hostages. During this period, all military operations will be suspended until the conditions for a full withdrawal are met.
According to the plan document, all Israeli hostages must be returned within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting the agreement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a televised speech this evening, said he believes all hostages will be released during the Jewish holiday of "Tabernacles", which runs from October 6 to 13.
This development is expected to mark the beginning of the most sensitive phase of Trump's proposed peace plan, which aims to finally stop the war in Gaza after nearly two years of bloodshed.
