Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially fired the head of the cyber security department of the Ukrainian security service following allegations of corruption.
After a media investigation into his finances, it turned out that the official did not justify his wealth. A decree issued today on his presidential website indicates that Illia Vitiuk has been officially removed from office.
Vitiuk had already been suspended following an investigation by a journalist at the independent newspaper Slidstvo.info, which raised questions about his wife's holdings and the source of the couples' wealth.
The journalist was later targeted by registration officers in a "revenge" move, the paper reported.
Since the start of the war, internationals have asked Ukraine to fight the widespread corruption in the ranks of officials.
