French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Iran and the United States to de-escalate tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and address the issues diplomatically. The French president said his country's position "remains the same" and that "everyone should calm down."
Speaking at a press conference alongside Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, he said France was not specifically targeted in the strait after Iran fired on ships there on Saturday.
The US has maintained a blockade of Iranian ports since last Monday, with Iran lifting and then reinstating its own blockade of the strait late last week.
Meanwhile, it was reported earlier that Pakistan's army chief, Asim Munir, a key mediator, previously told Donald Trump that the US naval blockade was an obstacle to talks.
We recall that after a confusion with Iran's withdrawal from the talks, an agreement was finally reached to continue negotiations in Islamabad. American negotiators led by JD Vance have left for Pakistan.
