Knife attack on a 21-year-old American on a tram in Dresden.
The incident occurred at around 12:25 p.m. on Sunday on tram line 7 from Weixdorf to Pennrich (Dresden). According to police, "two men harassed several female passengers" near the Golden Rider stop.
Police spokesman Lukas Reumund told BILD that "a 21-year-old American citizen intervened and was stabbed by one of the perpetrators during the ensuing altercation. The two perpetrators then fled the scene." The seriously injured American citizen was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police arrested one of the two suspects at another stop 700 meters away from the scene. The 21-year-old, whose name is Majd A. according to BILD, is a Syrian national and had fled on a rented scooter, according to police.
After the incident, bloodstains were visible on the tram, and there were handkerchiefs on the floor that rescuers had used to stop the bleeding. "The American citizen suffered multiple cuts to the face with a knife," police said, adding that the injuries were not life-threatening.
