Donald Trump dismissed any role for NATO allies in the Strait of Hormuz and said the US would work separately with Lebanon on the issue of Hezbollah.
Donald Trump has attacked NATO again, as four European leaders were discussing the security situation in Paris.
Through a post on Truth, Trump said he had received a call from NATO, before adding that when the US needed them they proved useless.
His comments came on the Truth Social platform after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron said the UK and France would lead a defensive and neutral military mission to protect the ships.
"Now that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has calmed down, I received a call from NATO asking if we needed help. I told them to stay away unless they just want to fill their ships with oil. They were useless when we needed them, paper tigers," the US president wrote.

European NATO countries have repeatedly rejected Trump's calls for the alliance to help forcefully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran effectively closed it following the launch of the US attack.
Trump had previously warned that NATO would face "a very bad future" if it did not support US efforts.
In another statement on Truth Social, Trump also addressed the situation in Lebanon. He said Israel is "stopped" from bombing Lebanon and added that "enough is enough."
Trump also declared that the US would "take all the nuclear 'dust'," referring to the remnants of US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last year. He stressed that "no money will be exchanged in any way."
Trump further clarified that this agreement "is not in any way subordinate to Lebanon," but that the US, separately, will work with Lebanon and address the Hezbollah issue "in an appropriate manner."
At the end of his statement, Trump said that, in addition to the US agreement regarding Hezbollah, Israel "will no longer bomb Lebanon."
