With a loaded rifle heading towards the Capitol, the 18-year-old alerts the American authorities

The US Capitol Police (USCP) arrested an 18-year-old man who was approaching the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., carrying a loaded shotgun. Authorities said there is no indication of a wider threat at this time.

According to the official announcement, the young man was spotted shortly after noon as he headed towards the building. Officers stopped him on the West Front of the Capitol as he began running towards the entrance. Police asked him to drop his weapon, and he complied, being arrested on the spot.

Authorities said the 18-year-old was wearing a military vest and had several rounds of ammunition. He had parked a Mercedes SUV on a block near the Capitol, where police also found a helmet and a gas mask.

Police said there were no other people involved and that there was no active threat to public safety. The young man's motive for the shooting is not yet known, and authorities confirmed that he is not a resident of the Washington area.
