A plane carrying several members of the Russian delegation to Geneva for peace talks avoided a direct route over EU airspace, taking more than nine hours to reach Switzerland.
According to FlightRadar24, the Russian government plane bound for Geneva departed Moscow shortly after 11:30 p.m. last night.

The plane, which likely carried some members of the Russian negotiating team, took an indirect route through Turkey, the Mediterranean Sea and over Italy. The flight lasted nine hours and 13 minutes and landed at 6:48 a.m. Geneva time this morning. A typical direct flight would take between three and four hours.
The move comes after the EU imposed a blanket ban on Russian planes flying through its airspace following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, although Russian government planes flew over Italy en route to Geneva. The UK has also banned Russian planes from its airspace.
