British media accuses Vučić: Manipulated the elections in Serbia, brought 40

The biggest battle between the two political groups was in Belgrade. Although the results for the governance of Belgrade have not yet been announced by the election authorities, according to the predictions of the groups that observed the elections, the Progressive Party of Serbia of the president Aleksandar Vucic won 38 percent of the votes in Belgrade, while the opposition 35 percent.

As the British Telegraph writes, "Serbia's leader announced victory in the elections, after accusations that he brought 40,000 people to Belgrade by bus."

"This is an absolute victory and it makes me happy," Vucic said before the official results.

The SNS won about 47 percent of the vote in the parliamentary elections, enough for an absolute majority in the 250-seat parliament.

Serbia Against Violence, a group of pro-European parties, won 23 percent, according to preliminary results. They accused the SNS of election fraud, warned that they will complain and ask for the elections to be repeated, Telegrafi reports.

"We have witnessed serious attempts to steal the elections", said one of the leaders of the coalition, Miroslav Aleksic.

Serbia Against Violence claims that 40,000 documents were issued to people who do not live in Belgrade and that "Serbs from BiH were bussed en masse to vote in Belgrade".

The media also writes that projections show that SNS has won 38 percent in the capital, while SPN has won 35 percent.

There were allegations that voters were paid to vote and pressured, and reports that an observation team was attacked.

The opposition parties also accused the ruling party of "bribing voters, stifling media freedom, violence against opponents, corruption and ties to organized crime."

The President of Serbia denies all accusations of any election manipulation.

As the British Telegraph reports, “Serbia and Russia have historic ties and Belgrade, which depends on Russian gas, did not join the West in sanctioning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine ".

"We welcome the achievements of Mr. Vucic", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

He spoke of Serbia, a candidate for EU membership, as a "brotherly" country, adding that Moscow hopes the result will lead to "further strengthening of friendship".

A significant number of Serbs support Moscow in the war in Ukraine and hate NATO, which supports Kiev, because of the attack on Yugoslavia. Also, there are still flights between these two countries.

Viktor Orban, Hungary's pro-Russian prime minister, also congratulated Vučić on his election victory. Orban blocked an aid package for Ukraine worth 50 million and opposed the opening of membership negotiations with Kiev.

The parliamentary elections, the fifth since 2012, coincided with local elections in most municipalities, Belgrade and Vojvodina.

The elections did not include the presidential elections, but the ruling party, together with the pro-government media, campaigned as a referendum for Vučić.

Serbia's opposition to Western-leaning violence has been influential during the months of protests following the tragic events of May, when 18 people were killed.

According to the Telegraph, this shook the SNS's decade-long stranglehold on power, and discontent was heightened by rising inflation, which reached eight percent in November. A total of 18 parties and coalitions fought for the support of 6.5 million voters.
