Russian politician Dmitry Medvedev has declared that Russia has the right to go to war with NATO. Writing on the "X" platform, Medvedev quoted those he called "Ukrainian criminals" as saying that their every attack on any Russian target was approved by NATO.
"If it is true, and there is no reason to doubt it, then this is a direct and legal proof of the involvement of the West in the war against Russia. It is called "casus belli" and for Russia it is an opportunity to act within this context against any NATO country", stated Medvedev.
The theory of war, which was first developed in ancient Greece and is still used by some Christians, "casus belli", is an act or situation that morally justifies conflict.
Ukrainian forces have attacked occupied Crimea several times in an attempt to liberate it, and Western countries have provided Kiev with weapons and equipment since the invasion began in February 2022, although it is unclear whether they are providing more direct military aid. .
The former Russian prime minister and ex-president, widely regarded as Putin's replacement, regularly uses social media to write provocative statements about Ukraine and its Western allies.
In the latest post, Medvedev warned that "the apocalypse is approaching," citing a Bible verse and old Soviet leaders.
He ended the message with an ominous quote that former Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev made to Western ambassadors in 1956: “Like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you alive".
