Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior Ukrainian official, has criticized the recent statements of Pope Francis, reminding him that he became "an instrument of Russian imperial propaganda".
" Pope Francis encourages Putin's misanthropic ideology, his genocidal weaknesses. We must ask ourselves what is the Catholic Church, what is Christianity, what is the bloody Ukraine of innocent victims. It seems that the Pope has once again been an instrument of Russian propaganda ", said Podolyak for "Corriere della Sera".
According to President Zelensky's advisor, Pope Francis' statements are "a destructive discourse for contemporary humanity".
" If we evaluate the Pope's phrases with an open mind, we see that they are an unconditional encouragement for aggressive imperialism, an applause for the bloody idea of the 'Russian world', which means the brutal destruction of the liberties and lifestyles of others" . Podolyak added.
Asked if the Ukrainian authorities are open to a negotiation, the senior official clarified that at this moment "there is no question" of such a thing.
"Let's be realistic. Moscow continues to delude itself that it has the resources to hold part of the occupied territories, it must suffer significant tactical losses on the front line. Only this, plus the intensification of conflicts in Putin's entourage, will force the Russians to a more realistic assessment of the situation. From this it follows that at this moment there is no question of any negotiations", said Podolyak for the Italian publication.
He emphasized that Putin is not only not a negotiating partner, he is also a hypocrite who considers the Ukrainian side's willingness to dialogue as a weakness to be exploited to his advantage.
"Putin never keeps his word, he acts on destructive instincts, always deluding himself that he can get away with it, breaking every rule. There will be no negotiations and for various reasons: it is useless, it humiliates international law, it justifies its crimes. Moreover, he has lost all sense of proportion, he condemns his country, oppresses his opponents, has killed them", continued Podolyak.
