Italian authorities have closed the investigation into the death of 34-year-old Albanian man Klaudio Myrtaj, definitively ruling out the possibility of murder. The decision was made by the preliminary investigation judge, who rejected the family's request to continue the investigation.
Myrtaj was found seriously injured on November 4, 2023 in the courtyard of the municipality in Vernante and died a few hours later in hospital. According to the prosecution, it was a single shot, considered inaccurate and without elements indicating a deliberate attack.
The investigations relied on technical evidence, including the position of the body, which was found very close to the wall, a circumstance that, according to experts, makes it impossible for an aggressor to have left no trace. For this reason, two main hypotheses were reinforced: accident or deliberate act.
The victim's family opposed the closure of the case, raising doubts about several pieces of evidence, including the murder weapon, a .22 caliber pistol later found at Myrtaj's workplace. The gun was fingerprint-free and illegally held.
Other weapons, ammunition and an improvised silencer were also found in the same premises, for which the victim's employer was found guilty. However, these elements were not considered sufficient to change the conclusion of the investigation.
With the court's decision, the case is considered legally closed, leaving behind an event with no identified perpetrator and no evidence of murder. However, the family's suspicions and unclear circumstances continue to remain open in public opinion.
