The three-day parliamentary process of the no-confidence motion against the Greek Government, submitted by PASOK-KINAL, SYRIZA, New Left, Pleusi Eleftheria and 9 Independent MPs, culminates tonight with statements by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and then the vote.
During his speech in the Assembly, former Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras announced that he would abstain from the vote. Then the statements of other political leaders exploded into accusations against parliamentary power. The leader of the Spartans B. Stigas announced that his party would also abstain from the vote.
According to the schedule, the vote on the motion was scheduled for around 9:00 PM, but it is considered certain to be delayed.
The motion of no confidence, to be approved by the Assembly, must receive an absolute majority of the total number of deputies. That is, 151 positive votes. Otherwise, it is rejected.
When a motion of no confidence is rejected, another motion may not be presented before six months have passed from the date of presentation of the previous motion, unless it is signed by an absolute majority of the total number of deputies.
