US strategic bombers have breached the Russian state border over the Barnec Sea thus posing a major risk of a mid-air collision. The fact was announced by the Ministry of Defense of Russia. After detecting an aerial target approaching Russian borders, the military has scrambled MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighter jets, the ministry said in a statement. The MiGs identified the planes as two American В-52Н strategic bombers.
"As the Russian warplanes approached, the US strategic bombers adjusted their flight course and then left the state border of the Russian Federation," the ministry said. The Russian warplanes conducted the flight in accordance with international rules on the use of airspace over neutral waters, the Russian defense ministry added. For its part, the Pentagon did not respond to the international media's request for comment on this incident.
Russia has repeatedly reported similar incidents in the past when its planes have clashed with military jets from NATO countries flying close to its border at a time of tension in the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Russian air defense systems destroyed 75 drones launched by Ukraine, more than half of them over the Rostov region in the southwest, during the last 24 hours. Forty-seven drones were destroyed over Rostov, 17 over the waters of the Black and Azov seas, eight over the Krasnodar region and a single drone over the Belgorod region, Reuters points out, citing sources from the Russian defense ministry.
