The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has said that banning the TikTok application in the European Union remains an option. She added that the Commission was the first institution worldwide to ban TikTok on corporate phones on the block.
"We know exactly the danger of TikTok," she added.
Von der Leyen did not appear in her capacity as Commission president in Maastricht, but as the main candidate of the center-right European People's Party.
TikTok is facing a separate investigation into alleged failures to protect minors.
Under the Digital Services Law, the Commission can order the temporary suspension of a service in any case.
