The perpetrator of the attack at the dinner attended by US President Donald Trump, Cole Allen, faces three serious criminal charges.
He appeared in court today, as the prosecution accuses him of: using a firearm during the commission of a violent crime; assaulting a federal official with a dangerous weapon and attempting to assassinate the President of the United States.
Federal prosecutors in Washington released official indictment documents, charging Allen with three counts, including attempted assassination of the president.
A seven-page affidavit from an FBI agent reveals new details about the incident and the investigation. According to the document, Allen traveled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago and then to Washington between April 21 and 24. He checked into a hotel the same day he arrived in the capital.
The document also describes in detail the development of the attack.
“ At approximately 8:40 p.m., Allen approached a security checkpoint on the hotel’s rooftop level, leading to the dining room. He ran through the magnetometer while holding a long gun. At that moment, Secret Service personnel heard a loud gunshot. The Secret Service officer, identified as VG, was shot once in the chest; he was wearing a bulletproof vest ,” the statement said.
According to the FBI agent, Officer VG reacted immediately by drawing his service weapon and firing several shots at Allen. The perpetrator fell to the ground and suffered minor injuries, but survived. He was later arrested.
Documents show that Allen was carrying a 12-gauge shotgun and a Rock Island Armory 1911, .38 caliber pistol.
According to database records included in the indictment, Allen purchased the shotgun on August 17, 2025, from a dealer in California, while he purchased the pistol on October 6, 2023, also in California.
