The German government is under pressure regarding the issue of migration. Chancellor Olaf Scholz reacts harshly and directly verbally attacks the leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Party, Friedrich Merz, in the debate.
Olaf Scholz is a calm man who is hard to make angry. Can he get out of control, raise his voice or be emotional? It happens very rarely, that the social democratic chancellor deviates from his calm, professional and reasonable line.
His presentation in the Bundestag (11.09.2024) during the so-called general debate was completely different. This debate always takes place during the week of the budget discussion, when parliament meets to consult on the next year's budget. The government and the opposition use this session for general debates also related to the work of the government.
Harsh verbal attacks
The balance from the opposition's point of view, as expected, was miserable. "Is Germany safer today than in 2021? No. Is Germany more competitive today than in 2021? No. Is Germany politically more stable today than in 2021? No". This is how Alexander Dobrindt, the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Bavarian conservatives of the Christian Social Party (CSU), opened the debate. "The coalition is not a coalition of progress, but of the destruction of this country."
The central topic of the debate was asylum and refugee policy. After the failure of migration talks between the government and the Christian Democrats/Christian Socials (CDU and CSU) in opposition, the chancellor and CDU chairman Friedrich Merz exchanged strong words, verbally attacking each other. They mutually hold each other responsible for the failure of efforts to jointly find a solution to the problem of irregular migration.
Plans for asylum policy are insufficient according to the CDU
After the knife attack in Solingen in mid-August, the government presented proposals to tighten migration and security laws. In essence, it is intended that already at the border, accelerated processes for asylum applications will be carried out. Refugees who are rejected must be held near the border until their asylum application is processed.
These plans are "too far from what is necessary," Merz criticized in the Bundestag. The CDU/CSU wants the refugees to return from the border, because Germany is currently overloaded with their acceptance and integration. People must apply for asylum, according to the Dublin Regulation, in the country where they first crossed the EU border.

Merz përsëriti në Bundestag qartazi: “Sipas bindjes sonë janë dhe mbeten ligjërisht të lejueshme kthimet e refugjatëve në kufijtë shtetëror të Gjermanisë, në sfondin e gjendjes aktuale, kjo është praktikisht e mundshme dhe madje politikisht domoshmëri.”
Por qeveria duke iu referuar ligjeve europiane e hedh poshtë këtë. “Disa prej jush janë tani krejt të habitur, që vendet fqinjë janë ende aty ku janë, e na thonë, se ne nuk e pranojmë këtë”, tha kancelari i indinjuar duke iu adresuar grupit parlamentar të konservatorëve. “Meqënëse ka kaq shumë gra e burra me një hubris të madh, po jua them shprehimisht: Pushteti i Republikës Federale të Gjermanisë mbaron në kufijtë e Republikës Federale të Gjermanisë.”
E ka pasur me seriozitet opozita bashkëpunimin?
Scholz e vuri në dyshim, që unioni konsrvator vërtetë e ka pasur seriozisht bashkëpunimin. Ai e quajti këtë si një “shfaqje teatrale” dhe mungesë vullneti për ta zgjidhur vërtetë problemin e migracionit. Unioni konservator qysh në fillim nuk ka synuar arritjen e marrëvshejs dhe më pas “u zhduk”.
Duke iu drejtuar Merz-it, Scholz thirri: “Ju jeni tipi i politikanit, që beson, në një intervistë me gazetën ‘Bild am Sonntag’ se e ka zgjidhur çështjen e migracionit. Por pa dalë mirë nga redaksia, harron se çfarë ka propozuar, sepse asnjëherë nuk e ke pasur në plan të kujdesesh për këtë.”
CDU/CSU nuk është ksenofobe
Ishin sulme personale të pazakonta, toni i fjalimeve ishte pjesërisht i acaruar. Merz u indinjua më shumë nga akuza, se unioni ka synuar qysh në fillim dështimin e bisedimeve për migracionin. Ky hamendësim, se bisedimet “ishin një inskenim”, është “infam”, tha shefi i CDU-së.
Ai hodhi poshtë gjithashtu akuzën, se unioni është ksenofob. “Gjermania duhet të jetë dhe të mbetet një vend i hapur dhe dashamirës ndaj të huajve.” Unioni është “tërësisht dhe pamëdyshje kundër çdo forme të urrejtjes ndaj të huajve dhe ksenofobisë”.
AfD kryeson edhe në Brandenburg
Gjatë fjalimit të tij Merz më tej kritikoi politikën e qeverisë. Një “shumicë dërmuese e qytetarëve të federatës” nuk u beson më SPD, Të Gjelbërve dhe FDP-së, “se po e sjellin vendin në kursin e duhur”, e shprehu përmbledhtas frymën në vend kreu i CDU-së. Sipas sondazheve aktuale tre të katërtat e gjermanëve janë të pakënaqur me punën e qeverisë.
Zgjedhjet në Saksoni dhe Tyringji ishin një katastrofë për partitë e koalicionit qeverisë. Partia pjesërisht e ekstremit të djathtë, AfD ka fituar dy herë më shumë vota se SPD, Ekologjistët dhe FDP së bashku. Më 22 shtator janë zgjedhjet parlamentare në landin e Brandenburgut. Edhe atje AfD kryeson.
Porta duhet të mbetet e hapur për bisedime
Ndryshimet në politikën e azilit dhe migracionit kërkohen nga një shumicë e qytetarëve. Kancelari Scholz bëri të qartë në Bundestag, se është i hapur për bashkëpunim me unionin konservator. “Të drejtosh nuk do të thotë të ngjitesh në barrikada duke bërë gjeste të egra”, tha ai duke iu adresuar Merz-it. “Drejtim do të thotë, të vesh në lëvizje njerëzit e tu për një kompromis.”/DW
