The company Meta has donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural fund, according to CNN.

The news comes two weeks after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's private meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The donation was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Zuckerberg is aiming for a more active role in shaping the next administration's technology policies. This represents a major turnaround from almost four years ago, when Meta banned Trump from his platforms following the January 6, 2021 uprising.

Before the election, Zuckerberg had gradually shown a greater rapprochement with Trump. In an interview over the summer, the Facebook founder said Trump's response to an assassination attempt in July was "extraordinary."

"Seeing Donald Trump get up after being shot in the face and raise his fist up with the American flag is one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen in my life," he said during an interview on The Circuit podcast in Meta headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

A number of top executives at some of America's biggest tech companies — including Apple's Tim Cook, Google's Sundar Pichai and Amazon's Andy Jassy — had sought a meeting with Trump before Election Day in November, aiming to secure a audience with the presidential candidate during a very strong race.

For his part, Trump appears to have enjoyed warm relations with the tech titans. He has boasted of private conversations with them in interviews and appearances, and now praises the companies he once blamed for his 2020 election loss, which had ushered in years of Republican-led attacks on tech companies.

By March, Trump had called Facebook an "enemy of the people" in an interview with CNBC, sending shares of Meta, the parent company, down more than 4% on the day of the release. Trump has also previously threatened to jail "election cheats," including Zuckerberg, who he appeared to refer to in a July post on his Truth Social platform.
