Peace talks begin in Egypt, Israeli hostage families demand Trump receive Nobel

Indirect talks between Israel and Hamas over the US peace plan to end the war in Gaza began this afternoon in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. The Israeli team is led by Ron Dermer, while Khalil al Hayyah heads the Hamas delegation.

Hamas has said its negotiations will focus on the first phase of a ceasefire, including the partial withdrawal of Israeli forces, as well as the release of hostages it is holding in Gaza, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli custody.

On the other hand, the families of some of the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza have asked the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump.

In a letter to the committee, family members said the US president should receive the award for what they called unprecedented contributions to world peace.

They said Trump's determination to achieve peace "made possible what many called impossible."

The families said Trump deserved the award because of his pledge not to rest until every hostage is returned home and because no other leader or organization "has contributed more to peace around the world" last year.

The letter says that thanks to Trump's peace plan, which is currently in negotiations, for the first time in months, we hope that our nightmare will finally end.

Trump has repeatedly said he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize and has claimed to have ended seven wars.
