
One person has died and five others are in a serious condition after a boat carrying migrants capsized in the English Channel today.
A joint rescue operation by the British and French coast guards has saved 50 people, the authorities said, reports "BBC".
An undetermined number of migrants were seen being pulled from a lifeboat. The extent of other injuries is unclear.
The RNLI said a lifeboat crew was launched just before 04:00am.
France's Maritime Prefecture said six people were airlifted to a hospital in Calais, while one person was later pronounced dead.
A volunteer who was on one of the rescue boats told the Reuters news agency that migrants were using shoes to get water out of the sinking boat.
Anne Thorel said her group rescued 54 people, including a woman, adding: "There were too many on the boat."

It comes after the government was forced to remove all migrants from the Bibby Stockholm ship yesterday after the discovery of dangerous bacteria in the water.
As of August 10, 15,826 people have crossed the Channel in a small boat this year.
